The broad goals of management provide focus on the direction of management. Objectives set the course for accomplishment of future desired conditions. Following are the objectives to secure values for Satpura Tiger Reserve:

• To protect and conserve the tiger reserve so that it acts as source for the ‘viable’ population of tiger in Satpura Landscape.

• To preserve the Botanical diversity of the area, with emphasis on rare, endangered and endemic species, by conserving the Biologically significant areas, critical areas and habitats of species through creating inviolate atmosphere and measures to regulate negative causes endangering them.

• Fostering prey base population like Sambar, Chital to a level, which does not distort the natural prey-predator balance.  Create conditions to distribute them uniformly throughout the reserve, to support carnivore population, mainly flagship species i.e. Tiger, through maintaining existing grasslands & creating interspersed grasslands to avoid conglomeration of herbivores.

• To maintain the area, as catchment area of Tawa reservoir through soil-moisture conservation practices and regulating adverse impact activities e.g. drawdown agriculture etc., which increases soil erosion.

• To preserve wetland of Tawa reservoir, as habitat of waterfowls, muggers, otters etc. by catchment area treatment, regulation of insecticides / pesticides, activities detrimental to wildlife therein e.g. unregulated fishing etc. protecting breeding areas.

• To maintain recession areas, as meadows to fulfill gaps in availability of grasslands by protection, manipulative management, including the use of fire as a tool.

• To restore the areas, degraded due to biotic pressure by minimizing grazing/fire and weed eradication etc.

• To conserve roosting/nesting sites of vultures, by monitoring, minimizing the use of banned drugs (Diclofenac) in and around STR.

• To conserve riparian forests, patches of late succession stage forests and old growth, which are prime habitat of Indian giant squirrel, flying squirrels etc., which perform key ecological functions of dispersing fruit and seed of many species.

• To maintain existing waterholes and creating new sources of water in deficient areas.

• To maintain and strengthen protection measure against poaching, forest fires, illegal and destructive collection of forest produce, fishing, encroachment, cattle diseases, illegal fishing etc.

• To judiciously develop tourist facilities in a regulated and controlled manner. This will involve easing of pressure on highly visited areas and facilities will include basic safety, water, toilets, interpretation etc., to use eco-tourism as a tool for conservation education and awareness & means of livelihood to nearby local inhabitants.

• To regulate and educate pilgrims by education, interpretation and manipulating management, so as to minimize adverse impact created on resource & to restore the area after the fairs.

• To regulate and maintain mechanism of controlling damage to environment in around Pachmarhi hill resort by replacing timber boilers with solar ovens, asking for proper sewage and solid waste management, use of non-conventional energy source, ban on use of non-biodegradable waste like polythene etc.

• To preserve/restore prehistoric rock shelters, pictographs, historic/ colonial buildings spread all over the reserve with the help of archeological department & technical advice of experts.

• To create an inviolate space for tiger by relocating villages from the critical tiger habitat.

• To promote/conduct research, studies, investigations activities in order to facilitate better scientific management of the area.

• To maintain and increase appropriate interpretation and conservation education facilities, for awareness and education of people, especially the local population to solicit their support in conservation of the area.

• Achieve sustainable growth in the population of Hard Ground Barasingha, now that the reintroduction has been successful, based on scientific background and approaches.
