Places in Pachmarhi Sanctuary

1. | Mahadeo-Chouragarh | Situated inside Pachmarhi Sanctuary, these hills are second and third highest peaks of Satpura ranges, having MSLs 1328 and 1308 M. respectively. These places are very important pilgrim centres as three important shrines viz. Bada Mahadeo, Gupt Mahadeo and ' Chauragarh are situated therein and a very big fair is held every year on Mahashivratri, which attracts around 3-5 lakh pilgrims. It is 10 km from Pachmarhi. |
2. | Priyadarshini or Forsyth point | Priyadarshini point is situated in Compartment No. 301 of the Pachmarhi Sanctuary. Named after Captain James Forsyth (Bengal Lancers officer and discoverer of Pachmarhi). |
3. | Apsara vihar | A pretty little bathing pool about two miles from Jai Stambh and about 2km from Pandav caves. This pool is by far the easiest in approach as compared to other pools. Apsara vihar is one of the most favourite swimming pool of the tourists. This cool pool gives a rich entertainment and Children enjoy swimming. Apsara Vihar is a good picnic point where one feels touch of nature's paradise. Rare medicinal plants are also available around this spot. One may explore up the valley since there are many picturesque rocky gorge overlooking the drop to Rajat Prapat the highest water fall in Central India. |
4. | Rajat Prapat | Rajat Prapat is the highest water fall in Central India. It is only half km. from Apsara Vihar. The entire path to Rajat prapat is rib boned through scenic natural beauty. The stream flowing down through Apsara vihar drops over more than 350 feet in height forming Rajat Prapat. The volume of water is small except in rains but none the less this fall is worth seeing. The pool down below is about one and half km from the railings. The pool is deep and the water remains icy cool even during the summer. |

1. | Bison Lodge | The oldest colonial building of the Pachmarhi plateau built by Capt. J. Forsyth in 1862, was converted into wild life museum-cum-interpretation centre in 1986. It is a ticketing and facilitation centre of Satpura Tiger Reserve. It was Head quarter of Forest department of CP & Barar for more than a half century. |
2. | Pandav Caves | It is said that Pandavas stayed here during the 'Agyatvas' in these five caves (Panch madhi) and the name of town Pachmarhi is derived from it. However, archaeological studies ascribe these caves to the Buddhist monastery of 6th-7th century AD, used for religious and political activities. Presently a beautiful garden is spread over the landscape beside it and the top of the caves give a bird's-eye view of Pachmarhi. This spot is just 1 km from Jaistambh. |
3. | Jatashankar | The Shiva shrine as old as that of Mahadeo is one of the closed site situated just 0.5 km. from town. It is said that Lord Shiva while escaping from Bhasmasur took shelter here and is a sacred place for Hindu pilgrim. |
